My grandfather was a master craftsman in upholstery serving Edinburgh from the 1930’s. As a youngster I enjoyed many school holidays as a junior apprentice, I was fascinated at the way he could take an old chair/sofa, restore and give new life to an item that only days before had looked certain to be heading for the bin. I felt at home in the workshop environment, and knew then that upholstery was the only career path I’d like to follow.
Unfortunately my grandfather died when I was in my mid teens, and I completed my 5 year apprenticeship in traditional upholstery before undertaking two years in contract soft furnishings. I then went on to Toronto, Canada to teach traditional upholstery and also pick up more skills in the contemporary market.
On my return to Edinburgh in the early ninety’s I started up my own upholstery business. More than 20 years on we would consider ourselves an experienced and respected company having built up good relations with 1000’s of customers in and around Edinburgh area.
